Becca’s Hype: Quick Updates & A New Social Platform

Today’s hype is a quick-fire round containing all the best nuggets of info you need on social media this week. Ready?

Snapchat are bowing down to users’ requests on the redesign. Sort of!

Did you hear about Snapchat pushing their redesign live, prompting a petition with 1.2million digital signatures to complain about the new, confusing layout? Well, Snapchat’s CEO Evan Spiegel has assured users that despite the criticisms, the new layout is here to stay, however, in a new update rolling out soon, the Friends section will now have three tabs: Groups, Stories, and All, so you can filter updates a little better. Time will be the judge of whether this satisfies fans or not.

Twitter Knuckle Down On Bot Behaviour

Do you use scheduling tools to perfect your Twitter presence? Well, it’s time to check your account, as automation is out! Don’t worry, as long as you’re abiding by Twitter’s terms, you’ll be fine to use automation to accompany your regular tweets, however, there are a few things you need to be careful of, such as tweeting the same tweet within a period of 3 days.

Here are the main points you need to consider:

  • Do not simultaneously post identical or substantially similar content to multiple accounts.
  • Do not simultaneously perform actions such as Likes, Retweets, or follows from multiple accounts.
  • The use of automation (including scheduling) to post identical or substantially similar content, or to perform actions such as Likes, or Retweets, across many accounts is not permitted.

New kid on the block:

Over the weekend you might have heard the murmurings of a new social media network called Vero. This new platform stands for truth, it’s the only social network that can say they aren’t mining your personal data, and there are no ads. I repeat, there are no ads. How are they doing this? By using a subscription model (sign up quickly, the first million users get free access for life) and by incorporating Buy buttons. If you buy a product via the app, Vero will get a cut.

Apart from not having ads, this platform also doesn’t have algorithms. Do you know what that means? It features a chronological feed. Vero is pushing the idea of ‘smarter social’, ‘smarter sharing’ and ‘smarter connecting’. So hurry up and make an account (when the site returns to normal, at the time of writing they’re experiencing technical difficulties) and share your passions, music, movie recommendations, photos, and more!
